Ahmedabad, April. 3: The first ever direct flight from the city to London took off with 226 passengers on board today. The Jet Airways flight 9W 125 took off from the Sardar Patel international airport here this afternoon.

Darshin Patel, one of the passengers in the inaugural flight, said, “This will be very beneficial because of the timing of the flight. We are scheduled to reach Heathrow Airport by 1905 hours London time. Passengers from Gujarat now do not have to go to Mumbai for a transit flight”.

This is a special aircraft which has been configured for international operations with 30 seats in premier class and 196 in economy class with in-flight entertainment. The passengers were also thrilled at the prospect of having an option to eat Gujarati cuisine during their flight to London.

“This non-stop flight is bound to save so much of time and energy of routine passengers and also those who have to either go to London or come to Ahmedabad in a hurry,” said Nisha Patel, another traveller.

“This flight will be operated twice a week and then the frequency may be increased. The response has been good for the maiden flight,” said Nishali Sheth, a senior Jet airways official from Ahmedabad.
