Indian Air Force puts up a dazzling show in Cochin

Indian Air Force Cochin, Apr 15: As part of platinum jubilee celebrations of the Indian Air Force (IAF), the ‘Surya Kiran’ Aerobatic Team (SKAT) and the ‘Sarang’ Helicopter Aerobatic Team performed at Kochi Marine Drive here today.

The first half of the routine included turns, wingovers, loops and barrel rolls in various nine aircraft formations.

In the second half, the formation splitted into two groups to carry out a variety of man oeuvres like splits, level and rolling crosses, inverted runs and the heart loop. The duration of the display routine varied from about 10 to 20 minutes.

“The show was really fascinating. We all came with the family to enjoy the show,” said P. Raghav, a spectator.

“It is very beautiful to see many planes together with colours of Indian flags. We really enjoy it,” said Risha, another spectator.

During the two-day air show, Sarang Team, which is being performing here for the first time, will showcase the capabilities of the indigenously manufactured Advanced Light Helicopter ‘Druv’.

Air shows will also be held in Thiruvananthapuram on April 17-18 and in Madurai on April 24-25.

One of the biggest air forces in the world, the IAF is currently modernising and buying new aircraft to strengthen its capabilities.

It has issued a global tender for 126 new fighters to upgrade its combat fleet, which includes Russian MiG-21s and British Jaguars.
