Sapphire Airways to launch India flights
Upcoming US airline Sapphire Airways is planning to launch flights to India, reports said. Sapphire Airways may launch flights to Bangalore from San Francisco via Munich, international news agency reports said. A Chicago-London-Mumbai flight may also be launched later.
Sapphire Airways is currently awaiting Federal Aviation Authority permission to launch its flights. The airline has tapped Centre For Asia Pacific Aviation for a feasibility study.
The airline, started by Indian entrepreneur Rahul Puranik, has a venture capital funding of $100 million. Puranik is founder-chairman of Sapphire Airways. According to Rahul Puranik, Sapphire Airways will be a full-service airline with budget airline fares.
At a later stage, the airline plans to launch flights to Africa and Asia, to connect Nairobi, South Africa, Dubai and China. The new airlines take advantage of the India-US Open Sky Agreement.
