NEW DELHI: Bidding to cash in on the civil aviation boom in India, in-flight shopping service provider AVA Merchandising (AVAM) has signed up with low-cost carriers, including Air Deccan and SpiceJet, even as it targets a four-fold jump in turnover to Rs 200 crore. 
Assuring government’s support to Air India to regain its past reputation of being one of the world’s best airlines, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday said the national carriers have so far been unable to take advantage of the opening of skies.
Air India Express, the low-cost international airline subsidiary of Air India, is planning to start flights from Chennai to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia from October. This is per the new aviation agreement between the two countries, which enables Air India Express to start new flights to Malaysia.

Times of India today reported that Ryanair of Ireland is planning to acquire a stake in low-cost airline SpiceJet. The SpiceJet promoters have denied the news.
Singapore Airlines announced that it will auction seats on the first passenger flight of the Airbus A380 super jumbo from Singapore to Sydney. The proceeds from the ticket auction on E-Bay’s Singapore web site will go to charity.

NEW DELHI: It would be a race against time for Air India to begin the first nonstop flight to US, as scheduled, from August 1. Two of the Boeing 777-200 long range aircraft that will be used on this route are now expected to be delivered to the airline only on July 25 and 26. They would reach Delhi amid much fanfare on July 27 and then be sent to Mumbai for preparations of an ultra comfortable flight, AI is promising on this sector.
