GoAir to start four red-eye (late night and early morning) flights

GoAir MUMBAI: No-frills carrier GoAir on Tuesday said it plans to operate four ‘red-eye’ flights at late night and early morning within its current network from this month-end.

A red-eye flight is a service operated by an airline late at night or very early in the morning, usually between 2300 hrs to 0500 hrs.

These four flights would fly between Mumbai-Delhi, Hyderabad-Mumbai, Mumbai-Ahmedabad and Ahmedabad-Mumbai, the airline said in a release.

“The Red Eye operation will find suitability among those passengers who do not mind travelling by late night or early morning flights. The operation is aimed at cutting down on long travelling hours spent on a train to cover the same distance,” GoAir Managing Director Jeh Wadia said.

The Red Eye operation is a part of GoAir’s frequency enhancement programme to be rolled out soon.

However, the airline has no plans to add new destinations to its present network in the current fiscal and plans to focus on the 11 sectors it currently operates.

The Red Eye flight plan comes on the heels of the Civil Aviation Ministry deciding to permit carriers to operate night services to ease congestion during daylight hours. The Ministry has advised carriers to operate services in the Red Eye time period between 2300 hrs and 0500 hrs.
