GoAir to Add Five More Aircrafts to Existing Fleet

GoAir Airlines India’s low-cost carrier GoAir will be inducting five more aircraft to its fleet as part of its expansion plans in the next 12 months, reported the Economic Times.

However, the Wadia group-promoted company has said that it will only be adding more flights on the existing destinations and has no plans to introduce new routes. The carrier has set a target of 31 fleet size by 2012 and is likely to have 11 Airbus A320 by the next fiscal.

“We will introduce flexible fleet, which will comprise aircraft on short-term lease for the busy winter months,” said the company’s CEO, Edgardo Badiali.

The carrier is reportedly planning to go on a cost-cutting drive to enhance its financial position and aims to break even in the next fiscal (2008-09). To facilitate this, the airline is also trying to review and re-negotiate the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) contract with SIA Engineering Company.

Mr Badiali said: “When the carrier started operations, our negotiating power was low. Now, we are in a position to get a better deal. Therefore, we are talking to other MRO players as well.”
