SpiceJet recruits 50 ground-handling staff
MUMBAI: Low-cost carrier SpiceJet has hired more ground-handling staff in airports following increase in operations. A senior company official confirmed it, but declined to divulge the exact number of recruitment which, according to industry sources, is 50. The official said the company is looking at another round of hiring for ground handling staff as it is now operating more flights.
The airline recently launched daily flights between Mumbai and Jammu via Delhi. It has also introduced two daily flights between Goa and Delhi. With this, the number of SpiceJet flights has gone up to 94 in 16 cities. SpiceJet has more than 1,800 employees for ground-handling services.
The hiring takes place at a time when the government is contemplating new ground-handling policy, which may not allow private carriers to undertake the services from January.
Gurgaon-based SpiceJet has received a capital infusion of $100 million from US investor Wilbur Ross and Goldman Sachs. The airline will receive another $65 million as the second tranche of investment from both these companies.
