Air India and Jet Airways Flights near miss: AI takes Pilots off-duty, clean chit to Jet Airways Pilots
Mumbai (PTI): Air India on Monday took off duty the two pilots of its Shanghai-bound flight from Mumbai following a near-collision with a Kolkata-bound Jet Airways flight at Mumbai Airport on Sunday but the pilot of the private airliner was given a clean chit.
"Air India has de-rostered both the pilots pending inquiry," an Air India spokesperson said.
It is a normal practice after any such incident, the spokesperson said, adding "this will enable the two pilots to be available for the inquiry."
Air India’s action on pilots came after a preliminary probe by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation which gave a clean chit to the Jet Airways pilot.
"In the preliminary inquiry, we have found nothing against the Jet Pilot," a DGCA source told PTI.
The full investigation was continuing and the final outcome would be known only after its completion, the source said.
Two hundred and twenty passengers on board the Jet airways flight and the air India flight had a narrow escape after the two aircraft had to abort their take-off as they were heading towards each other at Mumbai Airport on Sunday morning.

With the quality of pilots , in command of aircraft these days, it is a surely scary scenario. Inexperience…carefree attitude…over-confidence…..scary indeed….
