Two swine flu cases in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu
New Delhi: A woman and her five-year-old son, who arrived from the US on Thursday, have tested positive for swine flu or H1N1 virus in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The two travelled to India via Dubai and arrived in Chennai on May 28. The same day, they took a Kingfisher Airlines flight to Coimbatore. As the child was running a fever, they went to a hospital, where they were immediately admitted to an isolation facility; their blood samples were found to be H1N1 positive.
The two are being treated with Oseltamivir and are reported to be afebrile (without symptoms). Health authorities have traced all their local contacts. Their co-passengers are also being contacted.
Including these two, India till date has reported three swine flu cases; test reports of two passengers who recently complained of flu symptoms at the Delhi airport are awaited.
The World Health Organization has reported 15,510 confirmed cases of H1N1 infection from 53 countries. There have been 99 deaths. Passengers coming from affected countries are being screened at all airports in the country.
