NEW DELHI: Low-cost airline
IndiGo
NEW DELHI: There’s a silver lining behind every dark cloud. This holds true for the aviation sector too as the turbulence which hit it in 2008 is likely to clear up a little this year. But that’s likely only in the third quarter of this year, says Policy Outlook 2009, a report by the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA). The demand for the first half of 2009-10 will be weak, but improve later. Though there will be airline losses this year too, the magnitude will be manageable. Over the last three to four years, the industry has lost over $3 billion.
Mumbai: More passengers kept away from domestic airlines in 2008 than the previous year as ticket prices increased because of rising jet fuel costs, nearly halting years of low-cost flying. Passenger growth crashed by 17.17% in December to 3.32 million from 4.01 million a year ago.
New Delhi: At a time when several domestic airlines are looking to prune their staff strength, the Delhi-based low cost airline,
IndiGo, the Delhi-based, low-cost carrier, has ended Air Deccan’s five-year reign as the largest low-cost carrier in the industry. The change took place in August, just before full-service carrier Kingfisher Airlines erased the Air Deccan brand.
