WL Ross in talks with Jet Airways, Kingfisher for merger
MUMBAI: Private equity WL Ross and Co, which recently put $80 million in Indian discount airline SpiceJet, is in talks with Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines for a possible merger of the carrier, a newspaper reported on Friday. "The idea is to increase the valuation of SpiceJet or the money invested by WL Ross before the firm exits," the paper cited a person familiar with the development as saying. MUMBAI: Jet Airways (India), the country’s largest private airline is likely to merge its wholly-owned subsidiary JetLite into Jet Airways in the current fiscal. Jet promoter Naresh Goyal is considering the merger to break even by the end of the current calendar year.
Naresh Goyal, Chairman of Jet Airways, India’s premier international airline, has been honored with the ‘Business Person of the Year’ award at the prestigious UK Trade and Investment India Business Awards 2008, at a ceremony in Mumbai on September 9, 2008.
