IndiGo is the airline that surprised the aviation world by placing an order for 100 Airbus A320s at the 2004 Paris Air Show. Even as Paramount Airways eyes Wadia’s 40% stake in low-cost airline GoAir, a major shareholder of low-cost carrier Spice Jet has offered to sell his stake to Paramount Airways. The investor, holding between 10% and 12% in Spice Jet, reportedly told merchant bankers of his intention, according to industry sources.
Paramount Airways, the all-business class airline from Madurai in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, is planning to buy strategic stake in an existing airline. As per a Business Line report, Paramount, which has a successful brand, will drop the brand name of the target airline once the acquisition goes through. Paramount Airways MD M Thiagarajan refused to reveal the name of the target airline.
Chennai-based Paramount Airways is set to saturate the southern market and it is firming up the blueprint for entering the western region early next year. With plans of adding 15 more Embraer aircraft to its current fleet of five aircraft within the next two years, the premium airline is targeting national presence by 2011.
New Delhi: The Institute of Economic Studies, New Delhi, one of the country’s premier research institutes, has conferred the Udyog Rattan Award on M Thiagarajan, Managing Director, Paramount Airways and also an award for excellence on Paramount Airways. Dr. Bhishma Narain Singh, former governor of Tamil Nadu and Assam, presented the award at the Indian Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
