PUNE: Low-cost airline SpiceJet is expanding its fleet and focusing on costs to counter competition in a fast-consolidating Indian aviation sector. The airline, which also plans to connect to newer places, will induct a 212-seater Boeing 737-900 ER this month while three more will join its fleet in 2008, said executive chairman Siddhant Sharma. This will take the total aircraft strength to 22. 
NEW DELHI: In a serious security lapse, two persons were caught smoking on a domestic flight last Friday. The incident occurred as the duo managed to take in either a match box or a lighter - both of which are banned from being taken on board as they could be used to start a fire. While announcements are routinely made on domestic flights that smoking is not allowed, the two were let off lightly - after a reprimand.
SpiceJet, the low cost airline will start direct flights between Pune and Ahmedabad from October 9. It will be a weekly flight, which will operate every Tuesday.
